December DT

The lovely Jill & Mel sent me some Simple Stories December Documented and some Bo Bunny to design with in December.
Strangly enough, the page that appeals to me the most is one on which I used Christmas papers for a non Christmas page. This was done as a sketch challenge at the Scrapmates Crop and instantly became one of my favourite pages.

That girl will do anything to please you, even enduring a card mustache stuck on with foam pads!

Next I made a page of Gracia and Hannah, taken several years ago, in the snow.  The colours of the Simple Stories papers were perfect for this.

The last page I made using up the bits and pieces I had left over.

As I said, that pup will endure anything for a photo op - even wearing a Santa hat but she has a resigned look on her face this time - I think she is saying "Not again MUM"!

I also made a couple of other pages using this range which I blogged about here.

The frames on the Bo Bunny sticker sheet instantly spoke to me and I was inspired to make a page using a 'selfie' Gracia took last winter.  The Bo Bunny sticker that said 'Snow Kissed' made the perfect title.

I than made a companion page of Gracia and Josh in the snow. For the title I used 'Winter' from the sticker sheet and 'Love' from the Simple Stories wooden shapes.

 Reasons to be Cheerful:

1. It's Sunday and today, because I have finished m-i-l's tax return and year end accounts, I am going to go shopping this morning, go to church (service starts at 11:15 today - means I can shop beforehand) come home, have an early lunch and then play.  I am either going to make the class for my Feb crop (places available if you are interested) or perhaps blitz my stash and have a tidy.

2. A husband who agrees that I should have more time to do what I want.

3 A house that was cleaned yesterday so is a joy to be in.

The Accidental Scrapper

07:29 Karen 10 Comments

Along with the many, many advantages of being a designer for ATDML is that a couple of times a year we are given the opportunity to choose the dt kit for ourselves.  This month was one of them and I chose this gorgeous paper pack from Theresa Collins.

She Said: Collection Kit

It’s no secret that I love her papers, the cardstock weight of them, the texture and of course the design.  As I only have a daughter, what better range could I have chosen than the ‘She Said’ one?
To co-ordinate with the papers I also bought some bling (not used on this page)

e Line Pearls and CrystalsSIIC - Mini Swirls - Lyric

Labels (not used on this layout)

Basic Kraft Label Stickers

And some Sn@p Pockets

Just the Basics Sn@p Pockets

This layout is in fact the third one I have made from the kit so far but it is my favourite.

It came about quite by accident as I had, as I sometimes do, designed the page and laid out the elements of my page how I wanted them, without a particular photograph in mind. I then just grabbed the first photo in my pile to see how a 6 x 4 would fit in.  It just happened to be this photo - one I had had for a couple of years but never gotten around to scrapping.  If I‘m honest, the reason being is I do look much larger than I would like to think I am in the photo (must have been a trick of the light I think).  I couldn’t believe how well it went with the papers so with a little ‘shuffling’ about I was able to put the part of me that I was unhappy with inside the Sn@p pocket and it all worked out to my liking.  If only you could hide your larger bits in Sn@p pockets in real life!

I used the gorgeous orange damask paper, to cut the roses out on my Silhouette and some leaves cut from one of the papers, added a couple of heart shaped paperclips (from Wilkinsons) a little bit of journaling and my page was finished.

A photograph scrapped by accident but you won’t tell anyone will you?

Reasons to be cheerful:-

1.  Being able to post a blog by copying the one I have written for ATDML!

2.  Keeping to my new start for the year.

3. Early morning walks with Kiera.

New Year - New You?

08:58 Karen 7 Comments

I usually start a new year by  looking back on the old one but this year I am going to look forward to the new one!

At the ATDML October retreat I taught a mini album class called New Year New You. I challenged the ladies who made the album to do something new each month for the whole of 2014 and document it. This could be something major, something from your bucket list (there are plenty of ideas for inexpensive bucket lists on the internet) or even trying a new recipe but the point is that we all experience new things in one form or another at least 12 times in 2014.

Now, not all of you will have taken the class but you will still be able to join in with the fun. You may want to make a scrapbook page of your monthly achievements make a mini book of your own or use my instructions to replicate the one made in the class (for instructions email karen.moss2@btintenet.com) or leave a comment asking for the instructions. You may just upload a photo or write a quick blog post if you have a blog. I will put a ‘Linky’ onto the ATDML blog on the second Sunday of each month, starting in February, for you to link up to.  I will also write a blog post here and put a link to the ATDML blog.

I am definitely going to try to improve my fitness level and hopefully lose some weight. I may have a year of trying some new crafts or new techniques for the ones I already do. I know I will try new foods and recipes but most importantly I really don’t know where 2014 is going to take me but I do know that at least once a month for the next 12 months I am going to step outside my comfort zone and try something new – who is (wo)man enough to join me?

To quote Dr Seuss "Out there things can happen and frequently do to people as brainy and footsy as you. And when things start to happen, don't worry. Don't stew. Just go right along. You'll start happening to you!

Reasons to be cheerful:

1. New beginnings.

2. The promise of exciting times.  My word for 2014 is Discover!

3. The wisdom of Dr Seuss.

HAPPY 2014 - BRING IT ON!
